The Arewa House Lecture Series in memory of the Late Sir Ahmadu Bello, provides essentially unique occasions by all Nigerians to reflect on our history with a view to regenerating our cherished ethics and value system founded on mutual co-existence, tolerance, hard work, public service, as well as to refocus our efforts on those human virtues, political commitments and patriotic zeal that Ahmadu Bello was known for, to help us develop and sustain a prosperous Nigeria Nation that we can be proud of.
Beginning in 1994, Arewa House has organized ten (10) memorial lectures in honour of Sir Ahmadu Bello. This book is a compilation of the entire lecture series to date for easy reference. The Annual Lecture is not only dedicated to the memory of the Late Sir Ahmadu Bello as one of the most distinguished founding fathers of modern Nigeria; it further provides an avenue at Arewa House to discuss serious issues confronting the Nigerian Nation. No wonder, the various speakers were not only distinguished public figures but, whose more interestingly their discourses are centered on providing us with deeper reflections on our challenges and charting the ways for a brighter future for Nigeria.
These lectures were compiled at the time when Arewa House is celebrating its Golden Jubilee as a reputable international research Centre. The publication of this book goes to show the value of knowledge in the production of a virile human capital in our University and its various Research Centers have been engaged in over the years. The aim is not to be nostalgic about a better yesterday of the Sardauna’s era. It is rather to prepare us and the younger generation for the challenges of today, towards a stable polity and a better tomorrow. For this, I recommend this book not only for teaching and research, but also to our policy makers and the general readers.
